| [[Diageo Plc.]], the largest liquor maker reported net sales in the year ended June 30 rose 8% to ₤8.09 billion from ₤7.4 billion a year ago. Operating profit in the period increased 9% to ₤2.3 billion and profit attributable to shareholders increased 2% ₤1.5 billion. Henderson, investment manager reported first half net income slid to ₤41.2 million or $76 million or 1.85 pence from ₤89.5 million or 1.66 pence in the same period a year earlier. |

For the six months, Club Med posted a net loss of €9 million. |

The French-bank said sub-prime related losses at its investment bank totalled 1.205 billion euros. The bank plans to launch a 5.9 billion euro rights issue and to reduce CIB subsidiary by 10 %. CIB operations had a net loss of 795 million euro vs. profit of 539 million euros a year earlier. |

The airline group in the quarter reported a loss of 542 million euros compared to net income of 44 million. Loss per share in the quarter was 1.84 euros compared to 15 euro cents a year ago. For the fiscal year 2008, the airline reported profit decline of 16% to 748 million euros. |

| Barclays, the British bank with a significant presence in the U.S. reported first quarter loss of £1.1 billion in the quarter on the charge of £1.7 billion related to credit market losses and still has exposure to £14 billion pounds to subprime and other asset backed loans at the end of the first quarter. The leverage finance loan exposure is £7.4 billion. The capital and equity ratios at the bank were lower than a quarter ago but the bank is sending no signal that it needs to raise capital. |

Iron ore, coal and cost of electricity continues to rise across the globe as Canadian, Brazilian and Australian miners demand between 60% and 200% price hikes. |
