At the end of January 2008, 5.3 million persons worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more employees. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office, that were about 126,400 persons or 2.4% more than in January 2007. The number of hours worked in January 2008 increased 1.6% from a year earlier, reaching 713 million.

WIESBADEN – At the end of January 2008, 5.3 million persons worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more employees. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that were about 126,400 persons or 2.4% more than in January 2007. The number of hours worked in January 2008 increased 1.6% from a year earlier, reaching 713 million.

The earnings (total gross wages and salaries) amounted to EUR 17.9 billion; that was 4.8% more than in January 2007.
