WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the manufacturing sector saw a turnover rise in real terms by a working-day adjusted 5.3% in January 2008 (current month, preliminary) compared with January 2007 (following a revised +4.7% in December 2007). Domestic turnover increased by 5.0% in the corresponding period, revenue from business with foreign customers by 5.8%. Sales to euro area countries were 2.9% above the level of the preceding year, while sales to other foreign countries rose 8.4%.
Compared with the preceding month, real turnover in manufacturing showed a total increase of 1.3% in January 2008 after having been adjusted for seasonal fluctuations and working-day variations (following a revised +1.2% in December 2007). Increases were observed in domestic sales (+3.2%) whereas turnover from business with foreign customers decreased 0.9%. Among foreign transactions, sales to euro area countries declined 4.1%, while a turnover increase of 1.8% was recorded for other foreign countries.
In 2007 the (working-day adjusted) turnover in manufacturing was 6.1% above the level of the previous year; domestic turnover rose 4.0% and foreign turnover by a total of 8.7%.
