WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in February 2008, the index of import prices increased by 5.9% from the corresponding month of the preceding year. This was the highest year-on-year rate of price increase since July 2006 (+6.3%). In January 2008 and in December 2007 the annual rates of change were +5.2% and +3.7%, respectively. The index of import prices, excluding crude oil and mineral oil products, was 1.6% above the level of February 2007.
From January 2008 to February 2008 the index of import prices rose by 1.1%.
The index of export prices increased 2.2% in February 2008 from the corresponding month of the preceding year. In January 2008 and in December 2007 the annual rates of change were +1.8% and +1.3%, respectively. From January 2008 to February 2008 the index rose by 0.6%.
