The following is an unedited transcript of the news release from the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies.

In February 2008, the consumer price index for all households in the whole of France rose by 0.2% (+0.2% in February 2007, -0.1% in January 2008).The year-on-year price change was stable (+2.8% in January 2008).

In February, the raising of overall index resulted from a rise in prices of other services, according to seasonal rises due to the winter holidays, and foodstuffs except fresh products. The increase of prices of other manufactures and of clothing and footwear, due to the end of the winter sales, were less contributing. The prices of fresh products edged down due to seasonal reasons.

In February 2008, the price index adjusted for seasonal variations was stable (+0.4% in January). The underlying inflation indicator was up +0.1% (+0.3% in January 2008).
The HICP put up by 0.2% as in February 2007 (+3.2% year-on-year).
