UK Industrial Production Gains 0.2% in June

Manufacturing output in the latest quarter rose by 0.7% compared with the previous quarter.
Between May and June output of the manufacturing industries rose by 0.2%. There were no significant increases but the largest non-significant increase was in the transport equipment industries, where output increased by 1%. There were no significant decreases.

Business Services Rise 0.8% in May

In the three months to May, the output of business services and finance rose by 1% compared with the previous three months.
Between April and May business services and finance increased by 0.8%. The most significant increase was in other business services which includes investigation and security, management consultancy and architectural services.

UK Retail Sales Gain 0.2% in June

In the three months to June the seasonally adjusted index for retail sales at constant 2000 prices was 1.1% higher than the previous three months.
Between May and June the volume of sales rose 0.2%, reflecting increases in all sectors except food stores and non-store retailing and repair.The volume of sales in predominantly food stores in the latest three months decreased by 0.1% over the previous three months. In predominantly non-food stores sales were up 1.9%.

UK CPI Advances in June

The all items RPI excluding mortgage interest payments index rose by 3.3%, unchanged from May.
In the year to June, the consumer prices index rose by 2.4%, down from 2.5% in May. In the year to June, the all items retail prices index rose by 4.4%, up from 4.3% in May.

French Consumer Spending Falls 1.2% in January

In January, consumption expenditure on textile-leather grew at the same pace than in December.
In January 2008, household consumption expenditure on manufactured goods, measured in chain-linked volumes, declined by 1.2 %, after +2.1% in December. Household consumption of other manufactured goods went slightly down in January -0.5% after +0.5%.

French Business Sentiment Slightly Down

Stocks of finished products are rated inferior to the normal.
Business leaders consider that their past activity slowed down slightly. Total and export order books stay high. The personal production outlook decreases anew. The general production outlook, which represents business leaders’ opinion on French industry as a whole, deteriorates more strongly.

Factory Orders Drop 3.6% in Euro Area

Total industry excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment grew by 3.3% in the euro area and by 6.6% in the EU27.
In December 2007 compared with November 2007, the euro area EA13 industrial new orders index fell by 3.6%. In November the index grew by 2.0%. In the EU27 new orders decreased by 1.2% in December and by 0.2% in November. Excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment industrial new orders lost 0.8% in the euro area and 0.5% in the EU27.

German Job Growth Continues in Q4

In industry, the year-on-year level of employment has continuously risen since the first quarter of 2007.
According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office, the number of persons in employment whose place of employment was in Germany amounted to about 40.3 million. That was an increase of 617,000 persons or 1.6% on the previous year. The number of persons in employment hence exceeded 40 million for the first time in a quarter of a year since German reunification.

French CPI Decreases 0.1% in January

The price index adjusted for seasonal variations was +0.4%,+0.3% in December 2007.
In January 2008, the consumer price index for all households in the whole of France edged down 0.1%,+0.4% in December 2007,-0.3% in January 2007. The year-on-year price increase was +2.8%,+2.6% in December 2007.

UK Retail Sales Rise 0.8% in January

Sales volume for household goods stores increased by 4.3%, the largest increase for this sector since August 2006.
Total sales volume increased by 0.8% between December and January. Sales volume for predominantly food stores increased by 0.7%. Sales volume for predominantly non-food stores increased by 0.4%.
